Soverign Hill, Ballarat Vic

Something a little different then our normal camping weekends we spent the weekend at Sovereign Hill is an open air museum located in Ballarat Sovereign Hill depicts Ballarat's first ten years after the discovery of gold there in 1851. It is one of Victoria's most popular attractions and Ballarat's most famous.

Set in the 1850s, the complex is located on a 25-hectare site that is linked to the richest alluvial gold rush in the world. The site comprises over 60 historically recreated buildings, with costumed staff and volunteers. The recreation is completed with antiques, artwork, books and papers, machinery, livestock and animals, carriages, and devices all appropriate to the era.

Arrived around midday and set off to catch up with everyone and look around the site the package was all inclusive with accom, Dinner, show, entry, mine tour as well as some other extras as part of the package for the weekend. There are 3 options for a mine tour we went on the tour "trapped" explaining the mine disaster in Creswick .

During July the theme is a "xmas in july" with lights and snow once this was over we have Dinner on site at 1 of the restaurants then back to the hotel on Site a buffet breakfast was also included in the price then off home to plan the next weekend out
