Long
weekend in March so we headed to Grampians Edge CP in the Grampians @ Dadswells
Bridge at the north / eastern side of the Grampians itself, met up with Hutchie
& Wendy on the way up on Friday where we met Malcolm & Nikki who had
already arrived and Scott & Sue latter in the afternoon arrived and set up for
3 nights in the bush setting area of the CP with views to the Grampians as a
back drop.
Afternoon
and evening around the camp fire to late with lots of laughs and tears with
many funny stories and moments during the evening then off to bed for a 10am
departure to go out exploring as none of us had been to this area previously
Breakfast
of eggs, bacon and toast and a departure of 10am ready for the day, First stop
was a climb to Mt Zero at an elevation of of 573 feet above sea level the climb
was a challenge where only Linda, Scott and Hutchie made it to the “trig point”
I for some reason thought wearing jeans was a good idea so back to the car and
into shorts for the rest of the day Temp was in high 20’s everyone made it back
to the car park then off for our lunch stop. We packed pies and sausage rolls
and put them in the 12v oven for our drive to Zumsteins Picnic
Area, this is located on the banks of the MacKenzie River and is the site of an
historic settlement.
Lunch stop over then a drive to Mckenzie Falls (we
only walked to the observation platform) as we had enough walking in 1 day, the
place was full of people out and about on the long weekend, “hundreds” of
people in fact then to Lake Wartook for a quick look then to Halls Gap for a
coffee.
Halls Gap? This is the town which probably has the
closest access to the Grampians and it was PACKED to the rafters, the local CP
was FULL AS don't think they could have fitted anyone else in, made us
appreciated the room we have back at Dadswells Bridge. Sat evening quick dinner
then drinks around the camp fire
Sunday drive along the Eastern side of the
Grampians stopped and a winery along the way passed through Halls Gap on our
way to Dunkeld where we had lunch then a drive back along the Western side of
the Grampians, The Easter side is much better and gives you a perspective of
the size much better than the western. Collected some wood along the way ready
for tonight’s fire. Pizza for dinner, few drinks and a respectable 11pm to bed.
Quick pack up (we had pre-packed some stuff the
previous evening) only took probably hour+20mins then off for Maccas in Stawell
then home around 12:40pm around a 4 ½ trip from Grampians to home
Looking at the June long weekend to go back and
finish off seeing some of the attractions we did not get to see this time
